Bird, Swine, and other Flu Comments
UPDATE: January, 2010. The CDC stopped testing for Swine Flu last July. So how is it we still hear claims about it? They don’t know. The symptoms are the same as regular flu, maybe milder. I don’t get it.

May 1, 2009

Now comes the Swine Flu from Mexico. I’m not at all going to claim that it’s a fake, but I do think we need to step back and look at this matter a little more closely. I will first post some comments I wrote to a friend who emailed me to be sure to wear a mask.

Jim ~

According to the great Kenneth Seaton, GERMS DO NOT FLY, THEY HITCHHIKE. HANDS AND FINGERS ARE THE VECTOR. Next time you go out and about, be aware of all the surfaces you touch that have been touched by other people, some of them unwell. Did they sneeze, pick their nose, rub their eye, bite their nails? And then touch a door handle, a shopping cart, a counter, a can of food, a pen, that little gadget where you enter your pin # at checkout? The arms of your seat in the theater? The flush lever in the public restroom, or water faucet handle? Chairs and menus in restaurants? Gambling tables, one armed bandit handles? Shaking hands with everyone at church or AA or business meetings?
No wonder the whole group gets sick, and then we say, “That flu is GOING AROUND.” Let your fingers do the walking.
Bacteria die quickly on surfaces, but A VIRUS IS NOT A LIFE FORM and can sit there for God knows how long waiting for a host to come along, pick it up, and deposit it in their nose or eye. Yippee!! Let’s replicate.
The CDC is mentioning hygiene LAST in the list of preventives when actually it should be FIRST on the list, in my opinion.
If you are really going to protect yourself, get some white cotton gloves from a uniform supply place, and wear a clean pair, along with your mask if you insist, when you go shopping. Then put them in the laundry and wash hands and nails thoroughly. I keep a dozen pairs on hand. Gloves are much less conspicuous than masks. It’s easy to stay 5 feet away from almost everyone and avoid crowds. For an article on improving immune response, for free, at home, please click here.I buy cotton gloves from Uniform Sales in Lake Worth, Florida, for $31.80/dozen pair plus shipping. They come in S, M, L, XL, and have a snap at the wrist. No, they aren’t sterile, but they are washable. Call 1-561-547-6115 to order, and please tell Ron, the owner, that Nancy sent you.

Next, here is the opinion of Dr. Joseph Mercola, a highly respected health researcher:

To see the rest of this article on Swine Flu from Dr. Mercola: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/04/29/Swine-Flu.aspx

What Dr. Mercola has to say about the pharmaceutical companies and how the vaccine could be deadly.

Here are only a few lines from Dr. Mercola’s article:

This is NOT the First Swine Flu Panic

My guess is that you can expect to see a lot of panic over this issue in the near future. But the key is to remain calm — this isn’t the first time the public has been warned about swine flu. The last time was in 1976, right before I entered medical school, and I remember it very clearly. It resulted in the massive swine flu vaccine campaign.

Do you happen to recall the result of this massive campaign?

Within a few months, claims totaling $1.3 billion had been filed by victims who had suffered paralysis from the vaccine. The vaccine was also blamed for 25 deaths.

However, several hundred people developed crippling Guillain-Barré Syndrome after they were injected with the swine flu vaccine. Even healthy 20-year-olds ended up as paraplegics.

And the swine flu pandemic itself? It never materialized.

Where did This Mysterious New Animal-Human Flu Strain Come From?

Alongside the fear-mongering headlines, I’ve also seen increasing numbers of reports questioning the true nature of this virus. And rightfully so.

Could a mixed animal-human mutant like this occur naturally? And if not, who made it, and how was it released?

Not one to dabble too deep in conspiracy theories, I don’t have to strain very hard to find actual facts to support the notion that this may not be a natural mutation, and that those who stand to gain have the wherewithal to pull off such a stunt.

Just last month I reported on the story that the American pharmaceutical company Baxter was under investigation for distributing the deadly avian flu virus to 18 different countries as part of a seasonal flu vaccine shipment. Czech reporters were probing to see if it may have been part of a deliberate attempt to start a pandemic; as such a “mistake” would be virtually impossible under the security protocols of that virus.

The H5N1 virus on its own is not very airborne. However, when combined with seasonal flu viruses, which are more easily spread, the effect could be a potent, airborne, deadly, biological weapon. If this batch of live bird flu and seasonal flu viruses had reached the public, it could have resulted in dire consequences.

There is a name for this mixing of viruses; it’s called “reassortment,” and it is one of two ways pandemic viruses are created in the lab. Some scientists say the most recent global outbreak — the 1977 Russian flu — was started by a virus created and leaked from a laboratory.

Another example of the less than sterling integrity of Big Pharma is the case of Bayer, who sold millions of dollars worth of an injectable blood-clotting medicine to Asian, Latin American, and some European countries in the mid-1980s, even though they knew it was tainted with the AIDS virus.

Two Articles sent by a friend:

1. Regular flu has killed thousands since January

http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/04/28/regular.flu/index.html

CNN) — There had been no confirmed deaths in the United States related to swine flu as of Tuesday afternoon. But another virus had killed thousands of people since January and is expected to keep killing hundreds of people every week for the rest of the year.

That one? The regular flu.

An outbreak of swine flu that is suspected in more than 150 deaths in Mexico and has sickened dozens of people in the United States and elsewhere has grabbed the attention of a nervous public and of medical officials worried the strain will continue to mutate and spread.

Experts are nervous that, as a new strain, the swine flu will be harder to stop because there aren’t any vaccines to fight it.

But even if there are swine-flu deaths outside Mexico — and medical experts say there very well may be — the virus would have a long way to go to match the roughly 36,000 deaths that seasonal influenza causes in the United States each year.

“That happens on an annual basis,” Dr. Brian Currie said Tuesday. Currie is vice president and medical director at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York.

Since January, more than 13,000 people have died of complications from seasonal flu, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s weekly report on the causes of death in the nation.

No fewer than 800 flu-related deaths were reported in any week between January 1 and April 18, the most recent week for which figures were available.

The report looks at deaths in the 122 largest cities in the United States.

Worldwide, the annual death toll from the flu is estimated to be between 250,000 and 500,000.

About 9 out of 10 of those deaths are among people older than 65, Currie said. Most times, they already have health problems that the flu makes worse, he said.

“Regular influenza can be taxing,” he said. “It causes their underlying disease to decompensate and then they don’t have the reserves to get through it.

“While it may not be the direct cause listed on the death certificate, it certainly contributed.”

One of the reasons medical experts are nervous about the swine flu outbreak is that many of the people who have died in Mexico have been young and otherwise healthy. The strains found in the United States have so far been weaker.

But even the regular flu is sometimes fatal for younger victims.

“It’s not unheard of. It happens, either directly from influenza or they get a bacterial superinfection” like staph, said Currie.

While researchers haven’t developed a vaccine to fight the new swine flu, it can be treated with antiviral drugs Tamiflu and Relenza, the same drugs used on the regular flu.

[[Note: there are also natural, non-drug antivirals available.]]

Many times, seasonal flu itself is tough to prevent because it has mutated to a form different than it was when the vaccine was made.

[[Note: prevention with hygiene is superior to vaccines, in my opinion, and is harmless and free.]]

Seeking to put the swine flu outbreak in perspective Tuesday, Los Angeles County public health officer Dr. Jonathan Fielding echoed other public officials calling it “cause for concern, but not for alarm.”

“Given the size of L.A. County, given the traffic between here and Mexico, it would be very surprising if we didn’t have any cases,” Fielding said.

He said the county, where the CDC had confirmed 10 cases of swine flu by Tuesday, sees more than 1,000 flu-related deaths every year.

“So it would also not be surprising if there were deaths with swine flu — even if it had the pattern of seasonal flu,” he said. “Thus far, the pattern we see in the United States is very similar to that of seasonal flu — relatively mild to moderate cases.”

2. What is up here?

The following data is from yearly statistics for 2005 from the CDC’s own website.

Interesting indeed. The data published shows the annual (Pre Swine Flu) deaths in the USA from Pneumonia / Flu to be 63000.

So why is the CDC whining about the few deaths attributed to SWINE Flu in the past week, when the deaths from ALL Flu are over 1000 a week by their own reckoning??

Something is up–folks. something is up.

My late friend Stephen Goldberg was a brilliant biochemist. He helped lots of people with his knowledge of nutrition and supplements. He could expound on what happens in the body from this or that thing. He made it very understandable and very interesting. It was always a pleasure for me to listen to him.

During the Bird Flu scare in 2005, he sent me his reply to a lady who was asking him about getting a flu shot. I asked him for permission to post his comments here.
This is what Stephen wrote:
The bird flu scenario is just the LATEST scare tactic of the ESTABLISHMENT!  A healthy Immune System, which most people do NOT have, could care less about ANY pathogen.  Do NOT allow yourself to be vaccinated by ANYONE, for ANYTHING!  Not only will it COMPROMISE your Immune System, but  it could even KILL you.  THAT’s the REASON for the SCARE TACTICS!

If you want more viewpoints on this, put “Flu hoax” in quotes into your search engine and start reading. I admit some of it can sound pretty extreme. Only a handful of people worldwide have gotten Bird Flu, from sick birds. I didn’t find anything that said it was passed between humans. Yet, thousands die each year from the regular flu, and some sicken and/or die from the flu shot itself! What kind of whitewash is this latest thing, I wonder. I am so sick of all the selling of fear to the people, all the negative dramatization, the horror movie “what-if’s”. I say, WHAT IF we spent even a TENTH of the scare-tactics budget on actually teaching the people how to improve their immune systems, at home, for free? What a novel idea! Darn! Why didn’t I think of that?

Yes, that’d be great. But there is a drawback. Healthy people can’t be manipulated, controlled, or lied to as successfully as half-compromised, fearful, sick ones. Turns out that working on your health may be seen as subversive, a defiant act!! Did you know there is a move afoot to make vaccinations MANDATORY?? What a travesty.

Just my two cents worth.

page updated 7-18-2010 Wonder what they’re planning to sell us this winter. You can bet it’ll make them lots of dough.

And remember to keep smiling. Builds your immune system!
